THANKSGIVING DAY !
Before our English class, I’d never heard of thanksgiving day. I was surprised when I heard about the history of this holiday, I couldn’t expect that this story originates from the migration of the Indians. Moreover, while studying the origin of this holiday, I wrote out a few new words for myself.
The main word is “turkey”. When I heard this word I thought that it is something about Turkey (country) but I couldn’t believe that it is a large bird that is often kept for its meat, eaten especially on Thanksgiving. I saw a good expression that people say the prayer of gratitude before eating — “To say grace”. Also, I heard the expression “The harvest season” — it is mean the period/time when the main harvest is underway.
In our family, this tradition of a hearty meal is equated with the celebration of various events and holidays of family members. For example, when my parents have their wedding anniversary, we have a family dinner and cook our traditional plates. In Russia, the “Thanksgiving day” holiday is not very common. However, I would like to thank my parents for everything, for everything that they taught me, for their patience. I also want to thank our English teacher miss Shilina for her work and efforts to make English accessible and understandable for us, thank you so much for your understanding and patience. I also want to thank my classmates for their help and support in difficult times. It is enjoyable to say “thank you”!
